Let's use this space to plan post-safari events.
ISTE2010
Request from ISTE a space for Digital Photography like the space for Second Life and Podcasting. A space where people interested in photography can gather and share.
Vision for the ISTE space:
- Screen and projector for demonstrations
- Computer workstations for general use
- Workstations have installed:
- Apple's Aperture 2.1 (or current version)
- Adobe Photoshop
- and/or Photoshop Elements
- Adobe Lightroom
- Photomatix Pro for HDR
- Seating areas
- Theatre area (small) for watching presentations
- LCD Display panels to showcase photographs from the Safari (continuously added to during ISTE)
- As safari participants edit their images from the safari they add photos to a collection that is displayed
- Multiple LCD displays will provide opportunities to highlight different topics
- One display could be landscape
- A display could be dedicated to images appropriate to science lessons or other subjects
- Dedicated display for telling stories visually
- Vendor displays and equipment with reps to discuss and share ideas
- Meet the professional photographer at scheduled times
- To share their work
- Shooting ideas
- How they develop story themes for their photographs
- Scheduled once or twice per day for an hour at a time
- Information on certification training for educators who teach in programs requiring certified photography teachers
- ADE Volunteers will "man" the space
- Adobe Ed Leaders could be asked to help and share information on Adobe Products
- Telling stories with images could be a theme or a focus area to open discussions
Digital Photography SIG - There are lots of SIGs within ISTE, I don't see a SIG for Photography. Does Digital Photography fit within another SIG and if it does which one?
Beyond ISTE and Denver
How does our photo safari idea/event carry over into other ADE activities?
- ADE Institute
- ALI exhibits
- ADE presentations (keynotes, workshops, concurrent/plenary)
- Set(s) of instructional packets, worksheets, instructional videos (a la YouTube or TeacherTube) for classroom or ancillary use
- ADE webinars
And, who will take some responsibility to coordinate specific areas? Depending upon the area, this could be one person, or it could be multiple people on a team. Accountability would need to be built into this model so that the idea/activity doesn't just "flop" due to a volunteer's "dropping the ball" (we've seen that happen in the past--someone would volunteer to do something, then nothing ever happens with it).
Let's think about going into this photo safari with an eye towards what happens as a result. Kinda like Stephen Covey's "beginning with the end in mind" idea.
- Do we have some terminal objectives in mind for this photo safari? If so, what are they?
- Why have we decided to focus our selection (initial, at least) upon ADEs?
- Who, beyond the ADE community, do we desire to impact?
- What are specific areas/topics we desire to address?
- photographic talent
- nature studies
- conservation
- biology
- botany
- balance of nature
- geology
- careers in park service, conservation, science, ...
- "Thank You" expressions from the ADE community to "outsiders" who help us succeed on this safari

Thanks, Gordon, for putting together this page. It's a fabulous compilation of suggestions...and should result in some very meaningful results, I believe.

Too many great ideas here to comment on one, but I think this is an amazing start.
