This title of this presentation is based on a National Geographic video by Dewitt Jones, Celebrate What's Right With The World

In the video he referred to his photos as "Good Frame,  Great Frame"

It is a $795 video, 22 minutes long. We purchased it for our district wide staff development day, not because of the photography lesson, but the message about celebrating what is right with our world (and our school district).

But you can watch it online for free at

A Unique Perspective

One of the things we encourage you to do is to look for different photos than the typical tourist would take.

From USA Today, many different views of the Arches in St. Louis

One of the typical photography assignments is "reflection" - look at this photo, again from USA Today.

The other nine prize winning photos aren't too bad either.

This is one of the best articles I have run across about lenses for entry level DSLR cameras.

The 3 DSLR Lenses You Need (and 2 More You'll Crave)

I got "bit" after the Institute in Monterey, getting lens envy for a fish eye lens after seeing Marco's pictures of the large ADE group. I ordered a Canon fish eye lens without knowing what this article talks about and was disappointed with the results. With the sensor in an entry level DSLR being smaller than the normal 35mm film area, the part of the image where most of the distortion was taking place was outside the area the sensor was capturing. I have hung onto that lens, cause now I have "full frame" envy and am waiting for the prices to come down.
